Donna Holland Barnes, Ph.D., is the President and co-founder of the National Organization for People of Color Against Suicide (NOPCAS).
Formerly a professor of sociology at Southwest Texas State University where she developed her course in Suicidology, Dr. Barnes is currently with Howard University's Department of Psychiatry in Washington, D.C. where she conducts Suicidology seminars with the medical students and has joined the department's research faculty staff. Dr. Barnes serves on the national board of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and the Organization of Attempters and Survivors of Suicide (OASSIS). She also works closely with the American Association of Suicidology on evidence based research and suicide among African Americans.
